Considering A Trip To Branson

It’s been years since I was last in Branson, Missouri. Branson was just starting to bloom when I was there in 1992. Even though it was small, there was still a lot of great things to do. I keep putting a trip back there off, but after watching a recent feature on CNN and seeing the two Hilton hotels there, I think it might be a good time to make a trip there with the family.

Back in 1992, I took the time to visit a couple of shows and spend some time at Branson Landing. I also took in a Passion Play. Actually there were a lot of things to do in that little area of the Ozarks. Seeing the list of activities available there now is absolutely mind boggling. I don’t think you could even scratch the surface with a one week trip there.

Branson seems to have done something really remarkable, they have stayed down home but also moved up market. For example, the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing is a first class hotel with awesome amenities. It’s located in an historic downtown area and it really fits in. It’s awesome views of Lake Taneycomo are definitely worth it. Meanwhile the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel is everything you’d expect in a quality convention center type hotel.

I think I’d choose the Hilton Promenade to stay at in Branson if I had the choice, just because it’s near some of the very historic places and not far from the Payne Stewart Golf Course and Lake Taneycomo. They also have a great package with Silver Dollar City. Actually many great packages available, but the kids would Silver Dollar City.

Of course you don’t go to Branson just to stay in a hotel, you go to see the shows and go to do some playing. That means playing golf at any of the top of the line golf courses around Branson. It means taking in Silver Dollar City for the rides. It means taking in a Branson show every night.

Some shows that I know I’d to see there with my family would be the Yakov Smirnoff show, the Andy Williams show at the Moon River Theatre, Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede and Shoji Tabuchi. I don’t think I could fit them all in a short trip.

Anyways, the more I think about it, the more I need to make a trip to Branson this Christmas.

Catching Burn Notice When I Want To

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Charter. All opinions are 100% mine.

Ondemand-1If you are like me, you are very busy with your work and family responsibilities. It’s hard to catch your favorite shows when they are on. Of course you can record them, but that requires some forethought and guess what? I sometimes have so many things on my mind that remembering to record something is the farthest thing from my mind.

For example, my favorite show is USA’s Burn Notice. I just love it, but I can’t always watch it on Thursdays at 9pm when it’s on. Things always seem to come up and then I’m scrambling to find a repeat. I found a solution to this one: Charter On Demand. You can check out the On Demand home page and see everything they have available, including Burn Notice.

The On Demand home page is set up to be easy to use to check and see what is available. You do need to enter your zip code for your specific Charter cable system, but then you can find all of the listings. It’s pretty cool actually. They’ve also got a Facebook page to get the latest news and info about On Demand. You will ‘Like’ their Facebook page as well so check it out.

All in all, I’d love to be able to get Charter On Demand to be able to see all the great free and paid videos. It sure would make it easier for me to watch Burn Notice when I want to.

Mid Summer Report

The BeachSummer is about half over now and I have been doing a lot of reflection on the quality time that my family has been able to spend together so far this summer and the things we have been able to do. This is the first real vacation time that my family has had and we have done a lot so far but there is much more to do.

Sure we have spent some time at the beach and we have visited PIC and World Resort this summer, but we haven’t gotten much hiking done. I want to do some hiking in the mountains this summer. I’d also like to hike the trail to Forbidden Island with my oldest son.

The benefits of getting out in the mountains and doing some real hiking is that I can get to feel better about myself. My health isn’t as good as I’d like it to be, but I know I can improve it with some good exercise.

Thoughts On Spring

I can’t believe that it’s already the end of January. It seems like spring will be here before you know it. It’s been a tough winter, so Spring will be a welcome relief.

I am thinking about all of the Spring cleaning we need to do and all of the trips that we can take to the mountains in the months to come. It should be a great experience. I am certainly looking forward to it all right now.

It will all be another way to spend quality time with the family and that makes it all worthwhile.

Family Scrapbooking Activity

Scrapbooking funBeing a family on the go, we never have had a photo album for very long. They are very bulky and easily fill up boxes or even suitcases when we make a move. Most of our photos are kept in shoeboxes or worse. I have decided lately that enough is enough and I have embarked on a family scrapbooking project with the kids.

Basically, a few times a week, we will all sit down on the floor of our living room to make scrapbooks. The scrapbooks are very personal and have the goal of telling a story. So far it is working very well and the kids are even getting into the act. I thought they might be a bit young but they love helping out with their scrapbooks.

Has anyone tried family scrapbook nights?
