Not Enough To Eat
I am just totally shocked to hear that in the richest country in the world, there’s 35 million people without enough food to eat. The government helps, but they help an average of just $1.05 a meal. That ain’t even enough to eat in a third world country, but the government expects Americans to eat on it.
Where is the future heading when people can’t eat, where the US spends more on giving food to other countries than to our own people. What ever happened to the commodity handouts of the 70’s and 80’s? I remember standing in the line for free cheese, butter, powdered milk, and flour with my mom. That was something good, but now they have gone away. Where does the free government cheese go? It goes to the poor elsewhere in the world. Pure Insanity.
Kosher Fish
I am not Jewish but I sometimes play one on TV. Seriously though, I don’t like to make a habit out of eating shrimp, crabs, fish or other seafood that feeds on the dropping or carcasses of other fish. I find it gross to say the least. If a fish is kosher then I am pretty well ok with eating it, even if the taste is bad, at least I know it isn’t gross. I found this website with information about Kosher Fish and it is great.
Save Money With Canned Milk
We were recently given a bunch of canned foods by my mom. It is great having a large selection of canned foods and I have started expanding the variety in my cooking. Included in the collection of cans is several cans of evaporated milk. It got me to thinking about the utility of this form of milk packaging.
Evaporated milk is milk with 60% of the water removed. This means you can pick up a can of evaporated milk and add water to reach one quart. It may not taste as great as fresh milk, but it does provide the nutrients the kids need in milk.
Sometimes, we add a 50% powdered milk with 50% evaporated milk combo and it really saves money, especially with the high price of milk. We keep the re-hydrated milk in the refrigerator for a few days and the kids get the milk they wanted. We have overcame some of the off-taste by adding chocolate syrup to the milk so it’s a chocolate drink.
