Some Simple Small Business Website Marketing Advice
Just the other day I was talking to a friend about making money online. He was still under the impression that the only way to succeed online was with a lot of domains pointing to his small business. While that might have been a solution years ago, that wasn’t really what was needed.
What is needed? A single domain with focused content about the the product. The content needs to be well written and the site itself should be designed in such a way as to make it easy for search engine spiders to crawl it. If it can do that, then the only thing left is getting out the word. In other words, marketing.
Too many domains with the same message just muddle things up and cause Google to discard all of them. This is why the single domain is better. Another thing is that the single domain is easier to market since there is just one site with a focused message.
Now, for small businesses, my advice for marketing is to find local bloggers and have them put up links to the site or blog about it. Traffic is the ultimate goal of any website marketing, search engine results may be great, but all that gives is traffic. As a small businessman, it’s best to focus on traffic because that is what generates income for your site.

Change The Way You Do Business
One thing I’m trying to do today is to get more understanding on how to be successful in a new line of business. I think that in any kind of recession, the economy is such that you need to find more couple ways to earn money. This means abandoning the status quo and focusing on new and more innovative ways to increase your income.

Is Now A Good Time For A Startup?
People are often wondering if now is the time to start up a tech business, or really any business for what matter. From what my research has shown, recessions are the best time to start up a tech business.
Why? Tech businesses are all about increasing productivity and efficiency. During a period of economic prosperity a lot of inefficiencies enter the business system. These inefficiencies eventually lead to the recession as markets get distorted.
What pulls us out of a recession? A return to more efficient businesses and increased productivity. More value is created and the period of economic growth begins once again. Tech companies need to be ready for the upswing and that means they need to be taking advantage of the market right now.
Remember, Microsoft and CNN both started during recessions. Position yourself well now and be successful.
How To Silk Screen Print Your Own Shirts
I have always been interesting in learning new skills. My wife was talking with me the other day about possibly doing silk screen shirts to sell at the flea market on the weekends for extra money. I always thought that making silk screen shirts would be difficult until I came across this video.
It’s a great tutorial on the process involved in silk screening shirts. The tutorial is pretty straightforward, but I do suggest watching it a couple of times to get in all of the information. There is a lot to take in, but once you do, it’s all good. I suggest trying it out on a few shirts before you think about doing it as a full time business.

Running My Own Show
Doing your own thing and going your own way can be a big trip. Face it, it can be a lot of fun when you blaze your own trails and make your own path. Lately I have been trying to do more of it in the way of business and technology. Unfortunately, I have found that blazing new trails can be a lot of work.
Take for example, web hosting. I have started to do hosting of my own sites myself. This means that I am responsible for everything, including maintaining the server, securing the server and doing backups. It means that I need to do backups on a regular basis in order to keep things running smoothly. It’s a lot of work, but it is something I need to do.
Another example is programming. Since I always try to come up with something new and interesting, it means that sometimes I am coming up with entirely new ways of programming. I can’t really rely on anyone else to check and see if I am doing it right. It means I spend a lot more time doing trial and error to make sure I get things right.
That’s ok. I know both of these are improving my skills and making me more self reliant, and that’s something very good.
